Bjorn and Cortous: similar journeys?

1993 was an interesting time to come to Singapore with very little money and no job. That’s exactly what I did. Cortous got there in 1997 under similar circumstances. The motivation for The Karaoke World of Cortous Haire is an obvious one. Many of my initial thoughts and observations are found in the character of Cortous.

Any of us who have ever left home to "re-invent" ourselves (any move generally always involves re-invention) will know that many of the experiences we have can profoundly impact our lives. Having lived and traveled extensively throughout Asia, I have a long list of experiences that changed my life in positive ways, forever. Cortous’s journey is about experience. Some mysterious, some outrageous, some tragic, some heart-warming, some humourous…all important to his life quest. But to use the old cliché: “life is definitely stranger than fiction”.
